Notes from Harpswell

We’ve got  our XO here, and there is wireless — so I figuerd I would look up the tide charts and see if I could post to this blog. Looks like I can! I’m not checking email though!

We arrived late in the afternoon yesterday at the cottage that we are renting up here in Maine. A beautiful spot, though our view of the bay is a little obstructed by trees. We can take stairs down to the water, though, and get a nice clear view.

It is raining this morning, but I still got a little bird watching in. Saw some small diving ducks, which I am still trying to identify.I think they are common eider, but they seem too small. We also saw two harbor seals on a rock out in the water. The spotting scope gave us a nice view. One of them looked young… a mother and baby perhaps?

  1. What’s a spotting scope?

  2. A telescope used for birdwatcing. Main difference from a regular telescope: things are right side up.
